QGIS 3.10 "A Coruña" released
A few days ago version 3.10 "A Coruña" was released. A Coruña hosted the 2019 QGIS user conference, followed by a contributor meeting.
The Visual Changelog for 3.10 is now available, with a slight delay.
Some important improvements of this version are:
General
- Browser: Styles from other QGIS projects can be loaded from the browser
- Start screen: Templates for New QGIS Projects
- Start screen: Display of news and dates of QGIS events
- Expressions: improvements in attribute handling (attributes()), support for custom date/time conversion formats, collect_geometries() and improved make_line()
3D
- New representation: Billboards (always looking towards user)
- Measuring tool in 3D
- 3D navigation buttons
- GeoPDF export * and import with many useful options. See also separate blog post.
- Improved SVG export (layer names) with possibility to reduce coordinate accuracy. Useful for further processing in Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape.
- Print layouts: improved handling of map grids (dynamic grid mesh width adjustment, and data-defined mesh width settings)
- Print layouts: graphics in legends optionally to the right of the text
- Print layouts: support of spatial bookmarks for setting map sections
- Numerous bug fixes
- Kerning support
- Vertical text for Asian languages
- Various fine-tuning and numerous minor improvements
- GPS timestamp support when recording GPS data
- Digitization restrictions: support for allowed gaps (with thresholds) in the topology checks of a layer
- The snapping cache is now set up in the background and no longer blocks QGIS.
- Forms/Widgets: Live update for dependencies between 2 widgets (e.g. for default values depending on form entries)
- Composite primary keys are supported
- Improved handling of circular layer dependencies (useful for snapping improvements)
- Oracle data provider: auth-config support and transaction support (similar to Postgis transaction support)
- Text data provider: support of Z and M values from attribute columns
Analysis and Processing
- Raster calculator: new operators (abs/min/max)
- Processing: GDAL algorithms now allow additional command line parameters that are supported by GDAL but are not otherwise exposed in the processing form.
- Processing: new input parameters "File" or "Folder".
- Processing: numerous improvements for style management
- Processing: algorithm for cumulated height differences along a given line geometry, derived from a height model.
QGIS Server
- SVG symbols can be loaded from URLs
- WMS dimension support (e.g. time, altitude or other). This allows different map views taking into account the time dimension.
- WFS-3/OAPIF support (based on REST and JSON)
* Footnote on GeoPDF support: GeoPDF export and import requires that QGIS 3.10 has been compiled against GDAL/OGR >3.0 and against proj6. Due to a dependency on GRASS-GIS, the current QGIS version is unfortunately compiled with an older GDAL/PROJ combination. Therefore the GeoPDF support is currently not available for the official Windows and Ubuntu builds.
Possible workarounds: Patience until the next point release (probably on 22.11.2019), installation via the OSGeo4W installer as described here or compile it yourself from the sources.
Thanks: for this version we would like to thank, among many other supporters, especially the State of Vorarlberg and the co-financers (City of Vienna, City of Dornbirn, Canton Zug (Archaeology/Denkmalschutz), Canton Neuchâtel and Canton Thurgau, as well as a British National Park). Together they made the development of the GeoPDF support possible.
