The new QGIS release 2.16, named "Nødebo" was just released. Nødebo is a small village north of Copenhagen - a branch of the University of Copenhagen (forestry and landscape architecture). Last year, the first international QGIS user conference, combined with one of the bi-annual developer meetings took place in Nødebo. A short video shows where Nødebo is located - along with a sequence of QGIS core developers trying to pronounce it correctly.

For a list of new and improved features please consult the visual changelog. You can find the download here. Many Swiss QGIS users and developers contributed financially and through development work. We'd like to thank all Swiss and international QGIS users, sponsors, developers, testers, documenters, packagers and system administrators who contributed to the success of this current release.

QGIS 2.16 is a regular release. The previous version 2.14 is now in long term release mode and will receive updates until the middle of 2017. Organizations or companies seeking a more stable and bug free version should preferably use the LT release 2.14. The QGIS master code repository was now split into a 2.x and a 3.x master branch. New developments will preferably happen in the new 3.x branch. However, it is quite likely that a 2.18 release with DXF/DWG reader support and perhaps a few other urgent features that did not make it in to version 2.16 will be released.
